DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING OUT OF THE BLUE / GIZEM ÜSTUNER

Do not expect anything out of the blue  is a zine of Gizem Üstuners long-term project called “Low-Budget Projects” speaks about the precarious narratives underlying art practices. The zine comes with a pouch bag replicating the  Dutch blue tax envelopes. 

‘Do not expect anything out of the blue’ are sustainable VAT-FREE bags, replicating the Dutch blue tax envelopes for freelancers in the same layout, same shape, and same shade of blue, but with a different motivation including a publication inside. It mainly concerns the precarious aspect of the everyday politics of freelance life, such as the stress of an unpaid bill or rent, an overdue visa application fee or invoice, a rejected or unanswered funding proposal, an imbalance of many side jobs with temporary or no contracts, a not wanted or enjoyed negotiation with an employer for fair paid hours, and many more. Despite these challenges, the publication unfolds how art workers find creative ways to fill their blue tax envelopes, not just with tax papers, but also with strength, resilience, and determination.
